Telemedicine

TelemedicineStroke telemedicine utilizes video conferencing technology, similar to communicating via a web camera. Neurologists, physicians with advanced training in the nervous system, use this “video conferencing” to evaluate and treat patients experiencing an acute stroke. They are able to coordinate care with emergency medicine physicians, who use a set of protocols to perform the evaluation of the patient and immediately determine the type of treatment needed.

Since time lost is brain lost, it is crucial to have a neurological evaluation done promptly. With telemedicine this is possible and comes with the added benefit of receiving clot-dissolving therapies or other clot-retrieving procedures quickly to reduce disability or further damage resulting from a stroke.
