Breast Self-Awareness
It is very important to become familiar with the way your breasts look and feel to know what is normal for you, so that you can recognize any changes if they do occur.
Talk to your doctor right away if you notice any changes in your breasts that concern you. These may include:
- Lumps in the breast or under the armpit
- Breast Pain
- Breast and/or Nipple Skin Changes
- Nipple Discharge, other than breast milk
- Dimples in the breast
- Swelling or redness
- Change in size or shape
Breast Screenings
A screening mammogram is a low dose X-ray of your breast and the best method for detecting breast cancer early. The American Cancer Society recommends yearly screenings for women ages 45 to 54. Women 55 and older, it is recommended every 2 years. Women at elevated risk for breast cancer may qualify for mammograms at a younger age. Talk to your healthcare provider about your own personal risk factor.
