Become a Volunteer

Established in 1924, our volunteer program is an important part of the hospital's heritage. Volunteers work in a variety of ways to achieve their mission, which is "to render service to the hospital and its patients, and assist the hospital in promoting the health and welfare of the community."

Currently, 550 active volunteers working in 64 areas of the hospital and off-site locations have donated more than 608,682 hours of their time. Our volunteers have raised over $2.5 million for the hospital.

Junior Volunteer Program

If you are a high school student interested in a career in healthcare, the experience of volunteering at San Antonio Regional Hospital is invaluable. The Junior Volunteer Program allows the opportunity to interact with patients and healthcare staff, providing a rewarding way to learn firsthand how a large medical center operates. To be accepted into the program, you must be a high school student, at least 15 years of age, and beginning the 9th, 10th, or 11th grade for the 2024-2025 school year.

Applications will be accepted beginning on June 1, 2024. All applicants will be notified by August 9, 2024 whether they have been selected for an interview. Interviews will then take place August 21-23, 2024. Please note that there are a limited number of spots available, and we apologize in advance that we will not be able to accept all applicants.
New volunteers will be assigned a weekly shift based on their interests, schedule, and the availability of various hospital departments. Being accepted into the program also comes with the expectation that each Junior Volunteer will complete 100 hours of volunteer service during the 2024-2025 school year. Non-graduating Junior Volunteers who complete the 100 hours of service will automatically be allowed to return for the following school year.
